Besco, a medical software expert, has joined Banyan Software, an international investor specializing in software companies. “Over the past twenty years, our family has built Besco into a company that Belgian hospitals, health insurance funds, and pharmacies rely on every day,” says CEO Bert Lantin. “We were looking for a partner who could preserve this legacy while enabling our products to reach more hospitals abroad. The team, Alken’s offices, and our approach will remain unchanged.”
Founded in 2002 by Jos Bessemans, Besco has established itself as an expert in medical software solutions in the Belgian healthcare sector, thanks to the commitment of Marie-Rose Tabruyn. The company has also built a strong international presence, counting hospitals in Canada, Mexico, and Romania among its clients, as well as facilities on board Mercy Ships hospital ships. “Ten years ago, Jos and Marie-Rose passed the torch to me. Today, Besco is ready to begin a new chapter,” says Bert Lantin. “Banyan’s approach - acquiring companies to hold them long-term and continue their development - along with its commitment to retaining our team made our choice obvious.” We have found the ideal partner for the long term.
Investing in Besco Portal and international growth with SteMaTo
“Belgian hospitals and insurers trust Besco to ensure accurate reimbursement, line by line. This trust has been built up over decades and is hard to match,” say Julie Koegenboeg, Head of Northern Europe, and Jos Gritter, Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for Benelux at Banyan Software. “We are investing in two areas: further strengthening the Besco portal for the long term, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming nomenclature reform, and deploying SteMaTo, the surgical instrument tracking and traceability software for central sterilization departments, in more hospitals worldwide.”
“We are joining Banyan’s rapidly expanding portfolio in the Benelux region, as well as a large group of software companies in the healthcare sector. This gives us access to colleagues who work with hospitals and healthcare providers in other markets, as well as shared expertise in product development and artificial intelligence,” adds Bert.
What changes for customers?
For hospitals, healthcare facilities, health insurance companies, and pharmacies, nothing changes: same contacts, same support, same products, and the same location in Alken. Ongoing projects and implementations continue without interruption.
“Besco has a strong team, always ready to meet its customers’ needs. That’s Besco’s DNA, and it will stay that way. This step doesn’t change what we do on a daily basis, but it does change what we can do in the future,” concludes Bert Lantin. “Thanks to Banyan’s support, we will be able to invest more quickly in our software and further strengthen our international position in the digitization of sterilization and nomenclature processes. Next year, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary, and thanks to this acquisition, we will continue our journey for at least another 25 years.”
